Captive beluga whales head to world’s first open water sanctuary

Their live in showbiz is coming to an end. Thousands of whales and dolphins before them have lived and died in concrete tanks to entertain the masses. But this pair are getting to take early retirement. At the world`s first beluga whale sanctuary. The trainer`s who`ve cared for the young females here in Shanghai for the last eight years going to miss them.

Merlin Entertainments which owns the Sea life chain of aquariums bought Chang Fen ocean world in 2012. It made a commitment not to keep whales and dolphins for entertainment. So it is chosen the sheltered Bay on an island off the coast of iceland as sanctuary. The same Bay was a temporary home for killer whale Keiko the real-life star of hit movie Free Willy. Unlike his fictional counterpart Keiko did not survive in the wild. A submarine fence will therefore keep the belugas in this semi wild sanctuary. But first they must prepare them for the six thousand mile flight from China next spring. 

- It is a tricky process to transport these creatures. They may also find the journey quite stressful. The alternative  is to leave them where they are in their tanking in Shanghai and that is not good for their health and welfare either. 

Trainers are gradually reducing the temperature of their tank to acclimatize them to their new home. Feeding them more and training them to dive longer search of prey. Campaigners hope the sanctuary could become a model for releasing other captive whales and dolphins like these in Gwangju China on show in a shopping mall.

Но эта пара рано выходит на пенсию в первом в мире заповеднике кита белухи. Тренер, который заботился о молодых самках здесь, в Шанхае, последние восемь, лет будет скучать по ним.

- немного белый, очень осторожный, тихий и стойкий. И справа от меня немного серый,  очень храбрый, любит пробовать новое и иногда любит внимание.

"Развлечения Мерлин" которой принадлежит сеть аквариумов "Морская жизнь" купила "Мир Океана Чанг Фэн" в 2012. Он взял на себя обязательства не держать китов и дельфинов для развлечения. Таким образом выбрана защитная бухта возле острова у побережья Исландии как убежище. Та же Бухта была временным домом для кита-убийцы Кейко, настоящей звезды популярного фильма "Свободный Вилли".  В отличие от своего вымышленного коллеги Кейко не выжил в дикой природе.
